Scholarships from UNITAR may be available on a very competitive basis. UNITAR does not possess its own funds to support students but makes every effort to raise funds from donors and sponsors. Aside from UNITAR scholarships, a number of other organizations offer financial aide to students based on a number of factors. Below is a list of several organizations that you may wish to contact in search of funding for a Master's degree or individual course (the listing of these agencies does not guarantee funding to any of our students, this list is merely a reference list for possible funding sources). 

Scholarship Awards

 The following external funds and scholarships provide support for post-graduate studies. These scholarships are distributed to students of exceptional ability and talent. To find out more about each award, click on the title of the scholarship to connect to the organization’s webpage.

The Aga Khan Foundation

  • Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grand : 50% loan basis through a competitive application process. Students are preferably under 30 years of age and must be eligible nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, Mozambique. In France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada, applications are accepted from those are originally from one of the above developing countries, are interested in development-related studies and who have no other means for financing their education.


Australian Federation of University Women (AFUW)

  • Australian Federation of Graduate Women Inc. (AFGW),its States and Territiories and their Branches place the highest priority on providing financial assistance for women to undertake university studies. They offer a number of Fellowships, Grants and Bursaries. AFGW State and Territory Associations and some of their branches also award various scholarships, awards and prizes. Information about the various scholarships, awards and prizes offered by the individual State and Territory associations and branches can be obtained directly from individual Associations.


Bank of Bermuda

  • TheBank of Bermuda Foundation offers a number of scholarships, all of which are awarded annually. Applications for these awards are invited each year. 


The China Scholarship Council

  • The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a nonprofit institution with legal person status affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The objective of the CSC is to provide, in accordance with the law, statutes and relevant principles and policies of China, financial assistance to the Chinese citizens wishing to study abroad and to foreign citizens wishing to study in China in order to develop the educational, scientific and economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries.


  • Colfuturo is a Colombian non-profit foundation that was established in 1991 with the support of the National Government and some of the most important companies of the private sector in the county at that time. Its main objective is to provide financial support and increase the possibilities of Colombian citizens to access high-quality postgraduate study programs.


Foundation for Art Research Partnership and Education (ARPE)

  • The Foundation for Art Research Partnership and Education (ARPE) supports education by giving scholarships to talented young people to complete their education at a university (Swiss or foreign). There is no criteria regarding nationality but beneficiaries must have a disadvantaged background. ARPE also provides grants to talented individuals in the fields of art, music, medicine, and political sciences.


Fund for Development of Human Resources (FIDERH)

  • The Fund for Development of Human Resources (FIDERH) is a federal trust managed by the Central Bank of Mexico which for over 40 years has been financing graduate studies.


The Inlaks Foundation Scholarships

  • The Inlaks Foundation Scholarships are available for courses at European institutions. The scholarships cover tuition fees for the period granted. Tenure of other scholarships, teaching assistantships and part time jobs are permitted after permission from the Foundation. Only for Indian citizens.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP)

  • The JJ/WBGSP program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at universities renowned for their development research and teaching. The World Bank expects the scholars to return to their home countries upon completion of their study programs and apply their enhanced knowledge and skills to accelerate the pace of economic and social development. This is eligible for Developing Country Nationals and for Japan Nationals.


The Narotam Sekhsaria Scholarship Program

  • The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation under its Scholarship Programme awards interest-free loan scholarships to Indian students with a consistently good academic record. The scholarship amount (up to a maximum of Rs. 20 lakhs) is decided as per the assessment of the Foundation.


Civil Society Leadership Awards

  • Suitable for international students from developing countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cambodia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) who are able to receive and maintain a visa or study permit as required by the host country demonstrating a clear commitment to return their home country or region to continue supporting open society development

Global Study Awards for International Students

  • The Global Study Awards, hosted by ISIC Association, StudyPortals and British Council IELTS, will be available to prospective students in all countries worldwide. Only international students are eligible to apply the Global Study Awards and successful candidate(s) will be able to study abroad, on any chosen undergraduate or postgraduate programme at a higher education institution.
  • Eligible candidate(s)
    • have taken an IELTS test at a British Council centre, and receive an official Test Report Form (TRF) issued by the British Council in the last 2 years and before the application deadline
    • have a valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and/or International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) at the time of application


The O’Reilly Foundation

  • The O’Reilly Foundation supports a programme of scholarships to provide world-class educational opportunities for young Irish Scholars applying to an institution or university of their choice. Scholarships only for Irish nationals.


The Paras Education Foundation

  • The Paras Education Foundation (TPEF) is the premier provider of international student loan programs & finance options for education purposes worldwide. TPEF provides flexible / economical / affordable financial options. The foundation has counseled over 24,000 students realize their dream by providing them a bridge in the form of finance to get a great education.


Putera Sampoerna Foundation (PSF)

  • Since its founding in 2001, PSF has distributed more than 34,600 scholarships; organized training programs for more than 19,000 teachers and principals, adopted 23 schools and 5 Islamic schools.


The Rotary Foundation Grants

  • The Rotary Foundations offers grants that support a wide variety of projects, scholarships, and training that Rotarians are doing around the world. In order to be eligible for the grant, candidates must be nationals of any country in which there are Rotary clubs.


Swiss Benevolent Society of New York

  • The Swiss Benevolent Society awards scholarships and grants on the basis of need and merit for education above the high school level.The applicant or one of his or her parents must be a Swiss national.


The Tan Kah Kee Foundation

  • The Tan Kah Kee Foundation provides postgraduate scholarships, namely, the Tan Ean Kiam Postgraduate Scholarship in the Humanities (TEKPS). The scholarship seeks to encourage Singapore citizens and permanent residents to pursue their Master or PhD degree in the field relation to the Humanities.


UK Government, Professional and Career Development Loans

  • The UK government offers Professional and Career Development Loans to help assist British students pay for learning that will enhance their job skills or career prospects. Students are required to pay back the loan upon completion of their course.


Fulbright Foreign Student Programme

  • The Fulbright Foreign Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the United States at U.S. universities or other academic institutions. Approximately 4000 foreign students receive Fulbright scholarships each year. Programme eligibility and selection procedures vary widely by country. Applications for this programme are processed by bi-national Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassy in their home countries.


Golden Key Scholarships

OFID Scholarship Award for International Students

  • OFID’s Scholarship Programme sponsors outstanding young students from developing countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree studies in a relevant field of development, from any recognized university/college in the world. Field of study that scholarship will be provided is any Master’s Degree studies related to development: economics of development (poverty, reduction energy and sustainable development), environment (desertification), or other related science and technology fields. Nationals of OFID member countries are not eligible to apply the programme as follows – Algeria, Ecuador, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Venezuela

Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships

  • Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships is designed for individuals to study for a UK Master’s degree while living and working in their home country. Main objectives of the programme is to contribute to development needs of Commonwealth countries by providing training for skilled and qualified professionals in key development area.

Dorothy Marchus Senesh Fellowhips in Peace and Development Studies for Women from Developing Countries

  • This fellowship provides two biennial fellowships awarded to women from the developing world for studies in the field of peace and development studies at any accredited institution around the world.

Global Study Awards for International Students

Outstanding students who are recommended by Samsung Global Scholarship partnering universities (including Kyunghee University) whose nationality is one of the country in the DAC List of ODA recipients.


Korean Government Scholarship Programme

  • The Korean Government Scholarship Programme (KGSP) support the future global leaders and promotes the international cooperation in education by inviting talented international students to Korea for an opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea.
